Smartphones are constantly evolving, and trends are updated all the time. We’ve had a quick look at some of the top trends to look out for in 2019. Let us know what you think and what you’re most excited about.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the hottest trends in 2019:

  • 5G

Faster internet? Yes, please!

  • AR and VR

Augmented reality and Virtual Reality will evolve independently.

  • Chatbots

They are becoming more and more popular and we’ll see lots more of them in 2019.

  • In-display fingerprint scanners

The new scanner will allow manufacturers to reduce the bezels on their models and free up some room for other components on the back like extra camera lenses.

  • Notches

They will change shape in 2019. Expect to see waterdrop-like designs that will be much more attractive than the bigger styles in 2018.

  • Foldable phones

Samsung announced their first foldable phone at the end of 2018. While it’s still early days, we are excited to see how this design will unfold (pun not intended).

5G

While 5G is a huge talking point for 2019, we mightn’t see the full effects until later this year.

5G will improve not only the entire user experience but will also improve the mobile application market. Consumers are typically waiting a few minutes to download an application under 4G, however, this will be cut down to seconds with 5G. It’s said to be 100 times quicker than 4G and will ‘expand the application market as the possibilities for applications will be tremendous.

While it sounds amazing, it’s predicted to come with its fair share of issues. When 4G phones hit the market, it took almost 2 years to solve the poor battery life and how much data they use up.

ARandVR

Augmented reality and Virtual Reality will evolve independently in 2019. Solutions that will allow humans to explore fully immersive computer-generated worlds in VR or overlay computer graphics onto our environment (AR) are both becoming more and more popular for smartphone application developers.

Think of Snapchat and Instagram filters, or headsets that will allow you to enter a completely new world. Experts will develop world-class smartphone apps that will give the user a completely new and exciting experience.

Chatbots

As per Statista, the worldwide Chatbot market was said to be worth 190.8 million U.S. dollars in 2016 and in 2025 it is expected to grow to 1250 million.

They are becoming more and more popular and we’ll see lots more of them in 2019. Different from live chat, where a real human would be interacting with customers, they will speak to an automated bot.

Website visitors will be able to communicate with a chatbot and get real answers as quickly as possible – instead of having to wait around for a human to get back to them.

Due to their success in recent years, more and more bots are being incorporated with advanced AI technologies.

According to Gartner, by the year 2021, half of the enterprise companies will spend more on bots and chatbot creation than they will on traditional mobile app development.

In-display fingerprint scanners

Another trend set to take over in 2019 is in-display fingerprint scanners.

The new scanner will allow manufacturers to reduce the bezels on their models and free up some room for other components on the back like extra camera lenses.

Notches

Notches were a huge talking point of 2018, and they’re set to stay around for 2019. Not sure what we’re talking about?

It’s the minimalistic design that allows phone makers to go almost bezel-less but still giving consumers their much-needed selfie camera.

However, they will change shape in 2019. Expect to see waterdrop-like designs that will be much more attractive than the bigger styles in 2018.

Foldable phones

Samsung announced their first foldable phone at the end of 2018. While it’s still early days, we are excited to see how this design will unfold (pun not intended).

Word on the street is that Samsung will launch their bendable phone in 2019, that will open up into a 7-inch tablet. While Apple has yet to comment on the new trend, there is talk of Huawei and Xiamoi having already designed models.

Have you heard of any rumoured 2019 trends that aren’t mentioned in our list? Let us know what one you’re most excited about.
